Warid Telecom Donates Rs.120 Million and Plans to Construct SOS Villages for Earthquake Survivors

Considering the massive destruction caused by the devastating earthquake which has affected thousands of households all across the country specially in the areas of Abbottabad, Mansehra, Balakot, Shikiari, Muzaffargarh and Bagh. The Management of Warid Pakistan and Warid International has contributed Rs.120 million towards the president relief fund.

Warid Telecom has provided free calling facilities at various locations in Abbotabad, Mansehra and Kashmir by providing satellite units and has installed free PCO’s at the PIMS and Shifa hospital for the convenience of the survivors of Margalla Tower disaster in Islamabad.

Warid Telecom plans to cons- tructing SOS villages to rehabilitate the affectees of the devastated earth quake, who are migrating towards Rawalpindi after loosing their homes and relatives. Warid will facilitate them by providing basic needs like food, medicines, tents and other basic amenities.

Mr. Hamid Farooq CEO Warid Telecom said, “This donation would serve as a token of acknow-ledgement that we as a Warid Family are there to serve our beloved nation in this moment of need and solidarity.

He further added that our group is planning to contribute generously towards the reconstruction of infra structure for the survivors of the earthquake, so they can restart their life after this calamity.

Telenor Pledges Rs.65 Million Relief Package

Telenor has announced an emergency relief package for the victims of the recent earthquake that has left thousands dead in its wake. Telenor is pledging a sum of Rs. 65 million to go to the Red Cross and President’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Tore Johnsen, Telenor Pakistan’s CEO said, “We know that the government and Red Cross are working together to mobilize resources for the relief effort and we would like to contribute by all means possible.”

Tore further said that Telenor is committed to support the immense effort that was being carried out by the army and the Red Cross as blocked roads were cleared, communication was restored, and truck loads of tents, blankets, food and medicines were distributed in Manshera and Balakot in the NWFP.

Immediately after the earthquake, Telenor opened its network in advance in several affected cities and is currently providing free emergency communications services to the National Crisis Management Center. Telenor has also set up phone booths at emergency sites in Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Islamabad and is offering free communication facilities to the affected families.
