Musharraf to open COMSTECH moot on December 25

ISLAMABAD: The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) general assembly’s eleventh session of the standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) meeting will be held from December 25 to 27 in Islamabad.

COMSTECH Chairman President Musharraf will be the chief guest at the inaugural and concluding sessions of the COMSTECH general assembly and representatives of 57 member states will attend.

In a ministerial meeting held on Thursday, the Ministry of Science and Technology reviewed and finalised arrangements for the conference. Senior officials of different ministries and other departments attended the meeting.

Invitations have been sent to all 57 members states and some international organisations to attend the seminar. The meeting will discuss steps to build the capability of OIC member states in science and technology.

Reports will be presented by the member states to bring science and technology into the political agenda. Activity reports of the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Islamic Academy of Sciences (IAS) and various inter-Islamic networks set up by COMSTECH would also be presented.

The role of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in the development of science and technology in the OIC region will also be placed before the conference. General Musharraf, as COMSTECH chairman, will announce a new executive committee for the next four years.
